Welcome from the Program Coordinator
Welcome to the A&M-Commerce gender studies program. Gender studies allows students to explore the issues that shape and define social understandings of masculinity, femininity and sexuality in their contemporary, historical and global contexts.
Gender studies students learn to assess critically the assumptions about gender that shape societies, define relationships and create social inequalities. Students are pushed to develop analytical and research skills and to apply those skills by developing a conscious awareness of the fundamental characteristics of modern life. Through this process, students gain the self-awareness, confidence and compassion that are essential for success in the workplace and in all social interactions.
The gender studies program is an interdisciplinary program that draws courses from across the university and complements any major or field of study. Undergraduates can earn a Minor in Gender Studies while graduate students can pursue a Minor in Gender Studies and/or a Certificate in Women's and Gender Studies.
