Academic Degree Programs
Agribusiness (BS)
This program of study is designed to prepare students for careers in various businesses or government agencies associated with the production, processing and distribution of agricultural products. This major integrates competencies in the principles of business management including financial management, marketing, planning, analysis and organization with the technical knowledge of agricultural sciences. This major prepares graduates for careers in agribusiness, agricultural finance, county extension offices, ranch management, banks, ag loan offices, federal agencies and ag consultancy businesses.
Agribusiness Graduate Certificate
The Agribusiness Graduate Certificate is a 12 semester hour (4 courses) certificate. You will learn the fundamentals of international agriculture trade, analysis and forecasting, advanced demand theory, and more.
Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications (MS)
The MS in Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications equips students for leadership roles in agricultural organizations, teaching positions at various educational levels, and communication careers within the agricultural sector. The program offers the option to earn Texas teacher certification in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, and allows certified teachers to pursue principal certification concurrently. Students interested in research can choose a thesis track.
Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Agriculture Leadership and Communications Emphasis

Additionally, you will learn to organize and conduct on-farm agricultural instruction and demonstration programs for schools and the community at large. Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Agriculture, Food, and Family Option
Combines three critical aspects of our survival into an academic program leading to careers in production or public service. The program includes teacher certification coursework leading to the preparation of educators in Family and Consumer Sciences but also offers other avenues for working with families as well as the agriculture and food industries.
Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Industry Emphasis
The Industry emphasis is available to community college transfer students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in a specialized agricultural technology area. Credit for courses in the specialized agricultural technology area will be awarded only from departmentally approved AAS programs that have articulation agreements on file with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Ornamental Horticulture Emphasis
The Ornamental Horticulture emphasis prepares you for a variety of exciting careers. From golf courses to greenhouses, environmental agencies to major corporations, horticulturists with knowledge in ornamental plants, turf grasses, soils and landscape design are in high demand. This program will provide you with the knowledge to broadly serve retail centers and wholesale growers, small residential yards and commercial landscapes, trees and backyard or green roof gardeners.
Agricultural Science and Technology (BS) Teaching Emphasis
You will gain competencies in technical and production agriculture as well as methods and techniques for teaching and planning courses. Additionally, you will learn to organize and conduct on-farm agricultural instruction and demonstration programs for schools and the community at large. Agricultural Sciences (BS)
A graduate with a major in agricultural sciences should possess competencies in basic economics and management, plant and animal operations, pest control, production and utilization of plant and animal products, marketing and food sciences. Examples of career options for graduates with an agricultural sciences major include agricultural civil service professions, technical and sales positions, landscape operations, county extension agents, ranch management, agronomic or horticultural production management, food manufacturing and preservation and quality control.
Agricultural Sciences (MS)
The MS degree program allows students the choice to emphasize coursework in agricultural economics, agricultural mechanization, animal science, plant and soil science or horticulture. Graduate-level research is encouraged through the use of on-campus and University Instructional and Research Farm facilities.
Animal Science (BS)
The purpose of the animal science program is to prepare students for careers in positions such as ranch management, county extension agents, technical and sales representatives with agricultural businesses such as feed and pharmaceutical companies, agricultural civil service, regulatory agencies, technical consultants and laboratory technicians. A graduate with this major should possess competencies in animal reproductive physiology and genetics, animal nutrition, animal health management, production, utilization, marketing of animal products and business management.
Animal Science Pre-Veterinary Medicine option (BS)
Anthrozoology (BS)
Anthrozoology is an exploration of the intricate bonds between humans and animals, revealing how these relationships shape our lives and environments. Whether you're drawn to an animal-centric approach that highlights the lives and experiences of animals or an anthropological perspective that delves into human behavior and culture, this dynamic field invites you to uncover the many layers of interaction. Anthrozoology is a rich tapestry woven from various disciplines, including biology, sociology, psychology, communications, and animal sciences. By studying these connections, you can gain profound insights into our shared existence and the roles we play in each other's worlds.
Equine Studies (BS)
Equine Studies majors at A&M-Commerce prepare for careers in the equine industry with hands-on courses in horsemanship, equine health, reproduction and nutrition. From ranches to veterinary clinics and equine sales, to the pharmaceutical industry, equine studies majors are ready to make the transition toward a rewarding career in the equine industry. Our graduates pursue careers as stable managers, horse trainers, riding instructors, veterinary technicians, equine-assisted therapists and horse breeders.
Plant and Soil Science Graduate Certificate
Are you passionate about the plants you grow? Do you want to enhance your understanding of the intricate processes behind how plants and crops thrive in our harsh environment? Do you wish to expand your understanding of plant nutrition and plant production? Then the Graduate Certificate in Plant and Soil Science is the one for you.
Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (BS)
Our Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems bachelor’s degree will give students the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to create a sustainable future in agriculture. You will gain the classroom instruction and hands-on learning needed to pursue a variety of in-demand agricultural careers.
Hydroponics and urban agriculture courses are also offered at our Dallas location toward a degree in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.
Sustainable Food Systems Graduate Certificate
Enhance your skills to help create more robust food systems that can stand the test of time. This program will have you emphasizing theories, resources and strategies relevant to establishing and maintaining sustainable food systems.
Veterinary Biomedical Technology (BS)
Turn your love for animals into a career with a degree from A&M-Commerce. Through our veterinary biomedical technology program, you'll be able to explore and expand your knowledge in animal science, physiology and other essential knowledge you can use as you work in the field. Along with specific topics around large and small animal care, you'll also have opportunities to engage in hands-on learning in various animal facilities.
Wildlife and Conservation Science (BS) Agriculture Track
This program is designed for students interested in wildlife management, ecology or the preservation of biodiversity. Through hands-on research at our university wetland, practical exercises, field trips, internships and personal instruction in the classroom, you will gain marketable expertise in soils, ecology, botany and zoology. Upon completion of this program you can pursue careers as wildlife ecologists, game managers, state and federal wildlife biologists, state and federal park rangers, nature preserve and interpretive specialists, and zoo-keepers. This program is offered as a collaboration between the Department of Biological and Environmental Science and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

The interdisciplinary minor in Food Studies provides students the opportunity to exam food choices and issues from multiple perspectives. The minor uses courses from a variety of disciplines and is open to all majors.

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is committed to experiential and pragmatic learning with rigorous educational programs, courses and experiences enriched by quality instruction. We offer high-quality farm and ranch enterprises that create opportunities for teaching and scholarly activities. We foster positive relationships among our faculty, staff and students and maintain a strong public presence on campus, in the community and throughout the state and agricultural industry. Students are prepared to become competent professionals through the sharing and discovery of knowledge across the varied fields of agriculture.
